Map

This romantic hotel has its client’s highest ratings and is located only a few meters away from the gates of the town Pedraza, which was its Jewish suburb in the past. Pedraza, a town located 26 kilometres away from Segovia, was renovated in the XX century. Due to this renovation it was considered a Monumental Ensemble in 1951. The town is completely fortified with only one access gate. Amongst the most interesting things the town has to offer, the arcaded Square, the jail, the castle and San Juan’s Church definitely deserve to be mentioned

Highlights

There isn’t anything better than staying at the Santo Domingo Hostelry in Pedraza, a three-century-old manor house, which has recently been restored. It has a beautiful garden with views on the Sierra of Guadarrama, which can be enjoyed from some of the rooms. The rooms are peaceful and have been decorated with warm colours. The dining room and the gastronomy of Segovia offered by the hotel is highly recommended. Restaurant, terrace, garden and meeting room.

Things to do during your stay:

The visitors of Pedraza will be surprised. The village’s streets are a travel to the time when the Velascos, the constables of Castile, made Pedraza their home. Along with the Velascos came the emblazoned houses and prosperity to which wealthy ranchers undoubtedly contributed. During the XVI and XVII century Pedraza flourished by virtue of Merino wool… but it all came to an end and the rancher’s wealth declined along with depopulation, decline and desertion of Pedraza. Pedraza’s come back is due to the last decades’ tourism boom. Pedraza is worth visiting taking your time and staying at the Santo Domingo Hostelry is ideal. Along with an agreeable walk through the village’s beautiful square, the gift to one’s senses is to taste the roasted milk lamb served in many restaurants filling the streets with its wonderful odour. Pedraza also offers the traveller a series of monuments of great historical value.
You can start with the Sanjuan’s Romanesque Church, which stands out in the Plaza Mayor with its high tower. Then there is the splendid XII century fortified castle, where the painter Zuluaga restored part of its interior to set up his paint shop. Nowadays the castle is also the artist’s museum where guided tours are available. We recommend visiting the jail of Pedraza, as well as the recently restored Well of Hontanillas which houses a small auditorium.

If you have the possibility of visiting Pedraza in July you will be able to enjoy (the first and second Saturdays of the month) the special candle concerts. The sight they offer of a completely illuminated village characterizes these musical concerts. Another attraction of the village is the shops. The village has numerous shops, primarily for home decor and traditional products, which offer quality items that can’t be found in big retail outlets. For those feeling like combining the cultural visit with the enjoyment of nature in a child-cantered / child-safe environment we recommend the area of the Chorro in Navafria, which is only 12 kilometres away from Pedraza. Located in a dense pine forest, the area offers services, a bar, a picnic area with tables, parking spots, and most importantly natural pools. There is also an area set up for acrobranching (between pine and pine), which will delight the most adventurous young ones. You should keep in mind when planning the escapade that it is possible in spring and summer, during the weekends, the roads will be extremely busy. The highly frequented area of the charcas in Navafria with its natural pools is another possible option to bear in mind.

"Todo fue genial. El hotel es espectacular, la comida muy buena y las habitaciones también genial. Las bodegas de Muga, un 10. ¡Todo ideal!" (Fincas Blanco - febrero 2019)
