The “Hotel Rural Agroturismo Valdelana” is a quaint hotel that blends innovation and tradition. It is located in the “Bodega Museo Valdana” that was built on top of the antique caves that were carved out during the 15th and 16th centuries. Each room is named after one of the Valdelana’s family wines and are equipped with private bathroom, heating and air conditioning, flat screen TV and free WIFI. Breakfast is served on the house’s porch. The hotel also has a common room with a fire place, a 50" TV screen, leather sofas, a fully equipped kitchen and a dining room so you can go there and relax whenever you need. The hotel also has a terrace where you can go and admire the view of the historic town center of Elciego and the Marques de Riscal Cellar designed by Frank Gehry-

Visit to the Valdelana Museum / winery. This is normally included for customrs that stay at the hotel. You will dive into the history of wine making with this visit to the cellars and museum located in the same building you will be staying. A cellar that has won the “Best of Wine Tourism” award several times, which is awarded to Spanish cellars with achievements in art and culture. The visit is held in the old caves beneath the building that were constructed the 15th century. The visit has 4 stages: the ethnographic museum, where you will discover the prehistoric legacy of the region); the wine museum, where you will learn how wine was produced during the 19th century; the sensory tunnel where the smells and colors of the wine are highlighted; and finally the wine and olive oil tasting where you will enjoy 4 wines and 1 select olive oil.

A visit to Marqués de Riscal winery is a must if you stay at Elciego. Marqués de Riscal is one of the most popular attractions in Rioja. You will be able to explore the winery and see the past and present of Rioja wine. You will visit several wings that illustrate the history of the cellar. Marqués de Riscal is an icon of Rioja wine because of its history and its influence in the transformation of the region. Keep in mind that the Marqués de Riscal hotel is the building designed by Frank Gehry, not the cellar. The visitors center for the cellar is a few meters away from the hotel.

Hotel Marqués de Riscal offers 2 restaurants, both are up market and one of them was awarded with a Michelin star. There are not may restaurants or bars in Elciego, but you can enjoy riojan food at Real Fortuna and restaurant La Florida near the church.

Elciego in Rioja Alavesa - what to do?

Elciego is a small town of situated in the Alavesa region of Rioja. The historical town center features the San Andres Church and a picturesque town square where the residents congregate for most activities. The town also is home to several small palaces, a legacy of its historical importance.
The famous Marqués de Riscal Building was a turning point for the town. The 90-million-euro Project was designed by Frank Gehry, who also created the Guggemheim Museum in Bilbao.
