Day 1 – Madrid
Depending on your arrival time, you can choose how you want to explore Madrid, with its art museums, Plaza Mayor, Royal Palace, traditional food markets, shopping streets and parks. We will be delighted to recommend the best options for your time in Madrid, depending on your personal interests. We can also extend your stay in Madrid for a few nights to make sure that you make the most of the city before starting the tour (this option is also possible at the end of the tour).
Your first night in Madrid includes a traditional meal in Madrid.
Day 2 – The impressive city of Segovia and the walled city of Avila
On the second day, you will take the motorway towards the beautiful city of Segovia. Famous for its Roman aqueduct and its Alcazar castle, Segovia is not only a UNESCO World Heritage City, but also one of Spain's gems. In your itinerary for today, we have included a very special meal to enjoy the famous gastronomy of Segovia.
After lunch, you will drive to the walled town of Ávila. Surrounded by a stunning walled fortress, which has an incredible 100 towers, this town has a long history that stretches far back into the Middle Ages. You will see the wall from outside, before enjoying a private guided tour through this beautiful medieval town.
You will finish the day at your hotel, the fantastic Parador of Avila.
Day 3 – Salamanca
Salamanca is one of the most important University cities in Spain with its University being the oldest in Spain. Its University buildings, constructed in a blend of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles, are valuable architectural gems. Much like Oxford or Cambridge in the UK, Salamanca is a stunning example of a Christian University town in the medieval world. It is the University city most cited in local historical literature, such as in the books ´The student of Salamanca´ and ´La Celestina´.
The city is also famous for having one of the most beautiful main squares in Spain, which is spectacularly illuminated at night, and for boasting not one, but two fantastic cathedrals.
You will finish the day by enjoying a very special gastronomic meal, in which you will try high quality local dishes. As with every night on this tour, we have selected a very special hotel, where you can relax after a fantastic day of history and local gastronomy.
Day 4 - Castilian monuments and the enchanting decadence of Porto
Today, you will set off towards Portugal and make a stop in the city of Ciudad Rodrigo, where its magnificent castle awaits you.
After visiting Ciudad Rodrigo, the route takes you to the famous Portuguese city of Porto. The birthplace of Port wine, this town is full of charm, picturesque buildings and a pretty riverside. Your itinerary will include suggestions to enjoy Portugal on your way to Porto.
Tonight we have organised for you a traditional Portuguese evening meal with a twist. As you relax after your day of culture, you will enjoy delicious food at an authentic and emblematic local restaurant. For a truly Portuguese experience, you will also have the opportunity to see a Fado performance, the traditional music of Portugal. Beautiful, moving and very much linked to Portugal´s culture of the sea, Fado is a must while you are in Porto.
Tonight, you will sleep in one of the best hotels in Porto.
Day 5 – Wineries, wine and the Douro river
Today, you will visit one important Port winery, where you will learn about the elaboration processes of these delicious and special wines. Your itinerary includes a high quality lunch to learn more about traditional Portuguese cooking.
After lunch, you will then enjoy a river cruise to see the best views of the city, as well as see how wine was transported down the Douro River.
After a fantastic day of Porto wine and culture, you can relax in your comfortable hotel.
Day 6 - Viana do Castelo, the Spanish border and Bayona
Today, you will head north to the Spanish border.
The Miño River (Minho in Portuguese) marks the north of Portugal and divides Spain and Portugal. Before your arrival in Spain, your itinerary will include some interesting stops and fantastic cultural visits. We have selected a special hotel in Baiona for tonight, an old fortress near a beautiful harbor in Galicia. You will taste and discover the famous flavours of Galicia during tonight's dinner.
Day 7 – Santiago and the Way of St. James (Camino de Santiago). Seafood and Galician wines.
On day seven, you will travel to Santiago de Compostela. The recommended route will lead you through spectacular views before you stop in Cambados, one of the prettiest villages in Galicia. Here you will be able to enjoy seafood, the local speciality, paired with Galician white wines. But before lunch, you will visit a winery which produces Albariño wines near Cambados. A fantastic morning of wine and gastronomy.
During the afternoon, you will have time to visit the Cathedral in Santiago de Compostela, which is the final stop for pilgrims following the famous Way of St. James walking route (´Camino de Santiago´).
For tonight, we have booked you at one of Santiago's best restaurants. Your hotel for tonight is a small and charming hotel, the perfect place to relax.
Day 8 – End of your road trip

Price of the tour
95% of the time the price quoted for the tour will be as on the tour page. However, in Spain there are a number of special festivals and holidays which may raise the price of certain local services, such as Easter, the Festival of San Mateo or San Fermines, etc. If you would like to make your reservation over some of these dates, this may mean that the given price may change. It would be a good idea to check your dates with us first or make your reservation in advance.
How do I make my reservation?
To make your reservation contact us. We will require a 15% deposit to hold your reservation.The remaining amount can be paid when we send you your trip itinerary, or at least 30 days before the start of your trip.

Yes, of course, please get in contact us with us with your preferences. Additionally, if you add another tour to this tour, you will receive a 5% discount on the second tour.
If cancelled more than 30 days before the trip starts, 25% of the total trip price will be deducted to account for tour organisation and administration costs. If cancelled less than 30 days to the trip start date, a 60% fee will be deducted. Trips cancelled 7 days or less before the trip start date are non-refundable. We recommend taking out Travel Insurance.
