Getaway at the PARADOR DE OLITE. What to do?

Olite’s Parador is full of history due to the town it is located in. The history of Olite began with the Goths, who established a settlement to defend their territories from the Vascones in the 7th Century. From the S XII Century, Olite began to grow in importance resulting in the King deciding to build a royal palace which is today the castle and Parador hotel.

For this foodie getaway in Navarra we recommend you to visit the different attractions in the town including the wine museum where you can learn about production in Navarra and the grape varieties cultivated in the region. The church of Santa Maria and San Pedro are built in different architectural styles such as Romanesque and Gothic, making it a good idea to visit and witness the differences between both outstanding structures.

Surrounding Olite you can find some of the main attractions of Navarra. Pamplona, the capital, is just 30 minutes driving and here you can explore the tradition of the Bulls and Sanfermines while walking along the streets (every single July). Less than 30 minutes you also have the possibility to visit Puente de la Reina, a must if you are walking the Camino de Santiago. Other important places that we recommend to visit when you in Navarra are: The Leyre Monastery, which was founded by the King of Navarra Sancho and is a very special spiritual place in the region, and Tudela where you can consider visiting the plantations of Navarra. This is where most of the veggies are cultivated to be used in tasty dishes like menestra.
