Private Segovia and Ribera del Duero from Madrid tour itinerary

09:00 - Hotel Pick-up
The tour starts from Madrid, although it can also be booked from other destinations (please get in touch with us if this is the case).
Stop #1 - Short stop in Segovia
It takes one hour to drive by motorway to the beautiful old town of Segovia. Segovia is a stunningly beautiful city. It overflows with culture and heritage. Its aqueduct is not only its most photographed landmark, but also one of the world´s greatest Roman monuments. Segovia is much more than its aqueduct. Beautiful streets and squares, the last Gothic cathedral built in Europe, and its amazing castle (the Alcazar) shape the heart of this fantastic city.
Stop #2 - Ribera del Duero. First winery
The day will continue in Ribera del Duero. This is one of Spain´s best wine regions. Although a recent D.O., wine has been produced here for centuries at abbeys and monasteries. The spectacular castle of Peñafiel will come into view in the horizon and soon after the landscape will be covered with vineyards. We have selected two fantastic wineries for this tour. Our first stop will be at a terroir-based chateau-style winery. A fantastic vineyard and very innovative wine making methods are behind the quality of their wines.
Stop #3 - Lunch
Lunch will be enjoyed here, in one of the estate´s private rooms with views of the barrels just a few meters from your table. Sure to be an experience to remember for years to come.
Second winery
After lunch, we will head to one of Spain´s most special wineries. A family-owned estate with amazing wines that are stored in old caves that were carved centuries ago.
18:00- Back to Madrid
After lunch, we will head back to Madrid. Your guide will be happy to provide you with suggestions on restaurants and special places to enjoy in Madrid.

Reviews

We had a terrific day. Both of us are in the wine industry (assessing the quality of service in tasting rooms is what we do). The wineries were excellent quality and diverse. The lunch very very good. And our tour guide was very knowledgable, and gave us lots of history on route to and from the wineries. I highly recommend this tour.

Our group of four enjoyed a very full and interesting day with expert guide Yanny in late May. We were met at our hotel at 9 am and drove about 70 minutes to Segovia—a remarkable city that’s not on the typical tourist list. There we saw the structurally amazing 1st century AD Roman aqueduct and walked through the magnificent Cathedral with its many ornate chapels. Yanny then drove another hour into the Ribera del Duero wine district where we toured two very different wineries. The larger operation started with a tour of ancient caves where wine is produced and stored, followed by a nicely balanced pouring of current offerings. The second winery was small and very special, with a nice mix of art, music (good selection of LPs) and unique wines that show off the talents of a craftsman who experiments and presents the best of his bottles. The tasting was accompanied by ample cuts of cured meats, vegetables and bread. We all departed for Madrid not wanting to eat or drink until our very late dinner. The all-day tour was a great value and taught our enthusiastic group much about Spanish winemaking.

Our guide Raul's Peugeot van was the most comfortable van my wife and I have ever ridden in. He took us from Madrid to Segovia for a brief visit, then on to te wineries. At the first, we had an extensive tour interrupted by tasting one white wine with an appetizer, then luncheon with two red wines. At the second winery, we had a shorter tour and the tasting. In all, we tasted one white and five red wines, the latter including one of the finest we have tasted. From Raul and the vintners, we learned much about the Ribera del Duero wines, as well as about wine-making in general. The countryside we drove through was appealing, and the winery visits were unhurried.
