This is probably the best way to get from Bilbao or San Sebastian to Madrid. Spain´s real character is discovered in small villages like the ones covered in this tour, which offers a comfortable way to enjoy in 2 days amazing scenery and local traditions.
Roads in Spain are very safe. Part of the tour uses motorways, part high-quality local roads.

What follows is the most typical itinerary through some variations in the wineries and hotel chose may happen depending on availability at the time of booking.

Day 1: San Sebastian or Bilbao – Rioja
Day 2: Rioja – Ribera del Duero – Madrid

DAY 1 - San Sebastian or Bilbao to Rioja

You will picked up at around 08:00-8:30 by your friendly expert guide. After a short drive through motorway the landscape will change and Rioja wine country will welcome you. The wine tour will start in Haro, a landmark in Spain´s wine map. From Haro you will be driven towards Rioja Alavesa to enjoy some of the most spectacular landscapes in Rioja, with the impressive Sierra de Cantabria mountain range protecting the vineyards located at both sides of the Ebro river. You will enjoy wine tastings at 2 different wineries in Rioja. The wineries sill have been selected to ensure a great mix of wines and also different philosophies. You will also enjoy a high quality Riojan meal at the Bistro restaurant of the superb Marques de Riscal hotel. The tour will include a short visit to the beautiful walled village of Laguardia. Once the wine tour is finished you will be dropped off at your fantastic hotel for a well-deserved rest.

DAY 2 – Rioja - Ribera del Duero - Madrid

On day 2, you will be picked up from your accommodation in Rioja and be driven to your next destination; Ribera del Duero where you will enjoy 3 different wineries. The first one is an amazing historical winery where you will be amazed by the beauty of its cellars and also by the explanations from the owner. After this first visit your local guide will take you to 2 more wine estates and you will enjoy your meal with views over the wine barrels. The menu will include local special dishes and we believe will be one of the highlights of your trip to Spain. Afer lunch you will safely be driven to Madrid, your end destination. Your guide will be able to provide you ideas and suggestions on the best way to spend your time in Madrid.

My husband and I had a wonderful time on our two-day tour. We visited three wineries each day, and we were pleased that there were a mix/variety of settings, ranging from a intimate/family-owned boutique winery to more commercial/established wineries with stunning facilities and scenery. We felt welcome at each location, and enjoyed tasting some excellent wines (a good mix of whites and reds). We've done quite a bit of wine tasting (Napa, Sonoma, Paso Robles, etc), and we were not disappointed at all in the quality and variety of the wines we were able to enjoy during this tour. Additionally, the opportunity to learn more about the history and culture of the area was fantastic. Raul is a knowledgeable, engaging, and professional guide. He made sure we stayed on schedule, but never made us feel rushed. One of the many highlights of our experience was lunch at Ribera del Duero -delicious lamb straight out of the wood-burning oven, fresh rustic bread and a crisp salad, plus a locally produced digestif. Our overnight stay in Burgos was lovely, and we enjoyed our evening wandering the town and eating tapas This tour was well-organized and immensely enjoyable- we would repeat it again in a heartbeat.

What it the pick -up time in San Sebastian or Bilbabo? Pick-up is typically at around 8:00-08:30 AM but it is confirmed on a case by case basis
At what time will we be in Madrid on day 2? At around 19:30. Arrival depends on the traffic found
Can I be picked up at the airport? Yes, but you should be ready at the airpot to be picked up no later than 9:00 AM to ensure the itinerary is the same. Contact us in case of doubts.
Can the itinerary be extended in wine country? Let us know about your ideas and we will try to adapt the itinerary to best suit your travel plans

Can I have the name of the wineries we will visit? We do not advertise the names of the wineries visited and prefer not to provide them to ensure we keep the exclusivity of the tour to its maximum for our customers. We only visited small, top wineries that fit perfectly well into the schedule for the day.
Can I propose which wineries to visit? We understand you may love some wines and would like to visit the winery where they are produced. We are happy to listen to your preferences but please bear in mind that some wines are great, but the wineries not worth visiting. Please bear also in mind that some wineries do not accept visits or are not available on many days. Lastly, visiting certain wineries may imply a huge detour. The local team is expert in Ribera del Duero and Rioja and will ensure your tour includes amazing wineries.

If you are booking well in advance you may prefer to pay a 20% deposit to reserve your date. If you book for less than 30 days we recommend you book paying the full amount. Full balance is requesterd 4 or 3 weeks prior to the starting tour date.

CANCELLATION POLICY

If cancelled 30 days before the start of your trip, 15% of the total services cost will be deducted. For cancellations within 30 days of the starting date of the service, 30% of the total cost will be charged. Tours cancelled 7 days or less prior to the first day of your trip are non-refundable. We advise that you consider purchasing Trip Cancellation / Travel Insurance.
