Customer testimonials - Montserrat and winery tours

You’ll find many more testimonials on each of our Montserrat wine tours. Our experiences have been featured in a range of Spanish and English-speaking media, and some have even received critics’ awards. But for us, the greatest recognition will always be the kind words of a happy customer.

We hadn’t planned to go to Montserrat as part of our long weekend in Barcelona but so glad that we booked this trip at the last minute. Really enjoyed the stunning scenery from the Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey and will be going back sometime in the future to spend more time there. We were lucky to have clear blue skies on the day which made everything seem so picturesque. The visit to the Oller del Mas family vineyard was great and we enjoyed the wine tasting and tapas/pinchos. Our tour guide provided plenty of commentary, history and knowledge. Thoroughly recommend this trip to anyone.

We took this day tour to Montserrat, the Benedictine monastery. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the trip. The surroundings were breathtaking and we could've spent a full day at the monastery. We left there as a small group and headed for the winery tour with lunch included. Thanks for a fabulous day!

We have finally returned home in the US after our vacation, and I am writing to say that our Day Tour and the experience in dealing with your employees was by far the highlight! All of us - a group of 13 - were just amazed! It was the best wine tasting - with so much information -that we have ever experienced! He was such a fun part of the day and kept us so informed, the day just flew by! Everything went like clockwork! He was perfectly at ease with all of us and a very "special thank you" to him for making my little granddaughter feel so special all day long!

We were picked up at our hotel by guide/sommelier David Yzaguirre. His tour was a 5*+! He had an incredible personality, in depth knowledge of the area and a passion for wine. Our group went on a dozen or more day trips on this three-week vacation and this was hands down the best day trip experience of our vacation. We all wanted to adopt him and bring him back to the USA with us. Highly recommend

A major highlight of our two week tour through Spain was the private Montserrat and winery tour with David. His insights into the spiritual nature of Montserrat added to our appreciation of the site's history. The winery portion of the tour was one of the best winery experiences we have ever had! David, and Rob, our host , were incredibly informative about the winery's history, the Penedès wine region and Spanish wine production in general. The winery was beautiful, the lunch was delicious and David and Rob could not have been more charming, gracious and generous with their time. A wonderfully delightful day from start to finish!

Lovely Experience Outside of Barcelona

October 6, 2025

The tour was a great time. We thoroughly enjoyed spending time in the mountains and at the vineyard. Xavi was a hilarious tour guide, as well as a knowledgeable wine enthusiast. He made the experience top-notch. I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to spend a few hours outside the city to learn more about Catalonian culture.

1/2 day of history, tapas and wine

August 22, 2025

Laia and her colleagues were informative, friendly and so welcoming and humorous. I learned so much, smiled so much and enjoyed Monserrat and the vineyard. There was enough time on the tour to do a bit of exploring on your own. Highly recommend.

A well-structured and insightful experience, featuring stunning views and exceptionally knowledgeable guides.

July 14, 2025

We had a fantastic experience with Clara as our guide for Barcelona and the Monastery. Her passion for the history of both places was clear, and she shared her knowledge in a way that was engaging and easy to understand. She answered everyone’s questions thoughtfully and kept a positive, enthusiastic attitude throughout the day. At the winery, Lesly brought the same energy and enthusiasm, making that part of the tour just as enjoyable. Overall, it was an excellent experience, and we highly recommend it.

Wine and history

July 14, 2025

The entire experience was very lovely. Our guide Hector was very fun and knowledge, very charming too. I went with the idea of having fun and I did but also learned about the history of the places we visited. The view on Monserrat is stunning, a must stop.

Wonderful experience in Montserrat and Penedès!

July 14, 2025

Our group of 4 enjoyed a beautiful day touring Montserrat and two vineyards in the Penedès wine region. Our guide, Enric, was lovely and knowledgeable. His communication in lead up to the day was great and we felt very well taken care of. The vineyards we visited were amazing – a perfect experience with older and newer winemakers. They each showed us around their facilities and prepared excellent tastings for us. I highly recommend the Montserrat + Penedès private tour!

Great tour AND history lesson

May 12, 2025

This tour was a great combination of views, history, and wine. Our guide, Christopher, gave us so much information about the history and the art at the monestary in on montserrat. the day we went was very foggy so the views weren’t great but nevertheless it was a great tour. the wine tasting portion was a very thoughtful and intimate experience since we were with our small groups. everyone in the tour was fun to talk to as well. The wines and the winery itself were incredible. Finally, all the guides had a great sense of humor which made the bus ride super fun. 10/10 would recommend.

Which of our tours is for your? Let us help you decide!

Montserrat is located 50 kilometers from Barcelona. It is a 1,225 meters high mountain, with a mysterious and beautiful shape.

After Santiago de Compostela and El Camino, Montserrat is the second most important pilgrmigae center in Spain. The Monastery was founded in 1025. Shepherds had a vision, they followed it and the Black Virgin, “La Monereta” was discovered. The Monastery of Montserrat was built to commemorate that vision. La Monereta or Black Madonna is Catalonia´s patron since 1881.

The Monastery and its Basilica is one of Spain´s top visited attractions- You can learn more about the history of Montserrat in this link with interesting facts about the monastery, la Monereta, and its connection with Catalan and Spanish culture.

So now that you know a bit more about our amazing monastery and mountain, let us share with you some ideas to ensure you make the right decision and choose the tour that best suits your needs.

Our local team recommendations to ensure you make the most of your Montserrat wine tour

  • Book early. Book your Montserrat and winery tour well in advance.
  • Dress Comfortably – Montserrat’s terrain includes cobbled paths and some hiking trails, so wear comfortable shoes and dress in layers, as the weather can change throughout the day.
  • Check the Weather – Being a mountain destination, Montserrat’s weather can be unpredictable. Bring a light jacket and sun protection, depending on the season.
  • Respect the Monastery – The Montserrat Monastery is an active religious site. Visitors should dress modestly and be mindful of services and prayer times when exploring.
  • Enjoy the Views – Whether by funicular, a short hike, or simply from the monastery square, Montserrat offers breathtaking panoramic views of Catalonia—bring a camera!
  • Try Local Specialties – Sample local Montserrat delicacies like mató cheese with honey. There is a small market at the entrance and your tour guide can help you decide on things to try or purchase.
  • Enjoy one of the short hiking Trails – If time allows in your tour, explore Montserrat’s well-marked trails leading to scenic viewpoints and hermitages. You can ask your tour guide if there is time and if so, which short trail is best.
  • Mind the Altitude – Montserrat is at a higher elevation than Barcelona, so be aware that temperatures can be cooler, and some visitors may feel the effects of altitude.
  • Ask Questions – Winery and local guides are experts in their craft. Feel free to ask about Montserrat, vineyards and  the winemaking process, grape varieties, or food pairings to get the most out of your experience.
