Eating vegetarian and vegan in Madrid

Julio 25, 2014 at 10:00 AM

Last week we detailed the best places to eat vegetarian and vegan in Barcelona. Turning to our capital city, we have discovered the best places to eat vegetarian and vegan in Madrid, with the help of local vegetarians and vegans themselves. Whether you want to try traditional Spanish or Madrileño tapas and pinchos, or dive into a multinational eclectic vegetarian food scene, Madrid has something for you.

Crucina offers innovative and tasty vegetarian and vegan food, that also caters to lactose, nut and gluten intolerant diets. They promise not to use any products in their food that are animal, lactose, gluten, wheat or processed in any way. They invite you to re-connect with natural flavours and aromas, and dive into their seasonal and ecological dishes. Their menu offers soups (with fresh gluten free garlic, coconut/courgette or fruit bread), salads, starters, second courses (including moussaka, Portobello mushroom hamburgers, pizzas, pastas, etc) and a whole separate dessert menu. They also offer a selection of fresh fruit and vegetable juices, fruit smoothies, gluten free beers and ecological Ribera del Duero red and white wine. A must-not-miss for vegetarians and vegans visiting Madrid.

Loving Hut is a bright and friendly 100% vegan restaurant almost next to Plaza de España in central Madrid. They began their restaurant with the idea that ´human beings and animals alike can coexist in peace, love and harmony on our planet ´ and have elaborated their ecological and healthy vegan menu around this concept. As well as main courses such as pastas, soups, salads and vegetable dishes, they also offer delicious desserts and alcohol-free drinks.

Ecocentro

Ecocentro is much more than just a restaurant. It also owns an ecological shop, runs activities and events in Madrid and even has its own getaway house for retreats. The restaurant itself is described as being ´bio-vegetarian´ and is specifically for people with health problems and a vegan/vegetarian lifestyle choice. It aims to health the body and the mind with natural nutrition- a treat for any vegan or vegetarian.

Artemisa Huertas

Artemisa has two locations in Madrid, one in Sol/Gran Vía and one in Huertas. We have selected the branch in Huertas due to the fact that this area can feel a little further out of the hustle and bustle of central Madrid and Sol. Their menu offers helpful little symbols for Vegan, Vegan Adaptable and Apt for Lactose Intolerance dishes. The selection of dishes is frankly beyond extensive, as they offer starters, main courses, salads, pizzas, pastas and wok dishes, as well as desserts. With a wine list that includes White, Red and Rosé wines from different areas of Spain and a fresh fruit juice list that offers everything from apple to ginger, celery and beetroot, your drink selection will not be left for wanting either.  Open from Mon-Sun 1:30-4pm and 9pm-12am, this little jewel is perfect for lunch or dinner.

Their menu offers a wide range of classic dishes, such as paella, croquetas, salads and lasagne, as well as desserts such as lemon sorbet and tiramisu. The wine is also available here by the glass or by the bottle to accompany your meal.
